Where are you getting your yellow pear seed? The stuff I got from Johnny's split terribly. I don't think I got more than 10% un-split...and I gave them a shot two years in a row, with very different weather conditions. Wondering if there's a variety of yellow pear that is less susceptible.
Thanks!

I grew 30 cherry tomatoes in one of my high tunnels last year. This year it is going to go up to 50-55. While this might not seem like alot for some of you, it keeps this one man operation picking. I am going to add grape tomatoes (customers request) and several other colors. In my small operation, I have found that it is best to pick everyday/every other day. This way I don't have to worry so much about splits. I start picking them when they are blushing and I prefer to sell them a little under ripe and let them ripen up. This way I know they aren't going to be split. The varieties I have found that I like and customers like are Sweet Millions, Sun Gold Black Cherry, Tomatoberry, Sweet Gold, Red Pear, Yellow Pear. I won't grow SS100's too small and split easily. I trim off a lot of suckers and extra foliage that stick out in the aisles. I support them with CRW Cages. They were spaced 18 -24 inches apart and by the end of the season, It was one big massive wall of green. This year I am adding IsIs Candy, Snow White, Red Pearl and Golden Sweet. There is an art to picking them. Some have it some don't. It is patience. I pick straight into pint baskets and they go straight into the cool basement storage. Just my experience.
