Hey Bill,
I get both varieties through Johnny's Selected Seeds in Maine.
In terms of holding the basket...I've occasionally picked into a small bucket that is clipped to my belt. This is true of picking off of a trellis. (which isn't true of most of my tomatoes - but does pertain to late peas and works really well for them) Typically however I just set the basket on the ground. PIck everything within easy reach (as mentioned by someone else) and then reposition. It's been pretty well described but again I think the key is to having your eyes moving to the next next pick as your 1st hand is plucking, your 2nd hand is locating. (or something like that - it does get surprisingly natural) The other thing about Juliet and Chelsea (and others) is they are quasi-truss type tomatoes so you can often get a few ripe tomatoes right within the same cluster. It's not typical to have the whole cluster ripe at once but usually a few.
