So, do you graze your poultry on the asparagus the year before, or over the winter, to create the desired effect, Alison?

Breck,
We have found that "pasturing" our pastured layers over
our asparagus has two very good effects. Our asparagus beetle population
had declined considerably, and our asparagus production has really increased -
1/2 to 3/4 inch stalks! However, we have to watch the time they are there
carefully to be in compliance with safe manure handling practices.
Asparagus comes up EARLY in the spring!

Tom,
Are you familiar with GAP (Good Ag Practices) as it pertains to entry of animals into your produce growing areas?
I have been considering fencing in my asparagus and putting some birds of some sort to eat the asparagus beetles after the harvest period. Maybe some weeder ducks.
