We attend a producer only farmers market in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  It is open on Tuesday mornings from 7 AM until 1 PM and on Saturdays from 7 until noon.  Market runs from the middle of April through the end of October.  Last year we grew to 46 members, and decided we needed a market manager to help with administration, but more importantly, with getting the word out about the market to the community.  The market surveys we have conducted have led us to believe that the thousands of dollars we have invested in television and print media have had little impact and the number one reason people have heard about the market is word of mouth, so our market manager is going to be speaking to civic groups, homemakers, health and wellness groups, etc.

We increased our membership fees from $50.00 to $100.00 this year, but offered a $25.00 discount coupon on the first membership if they attended the annual meeting.  (Most people we have ever seen at an annual meeting, and we had 18 members sign up at the meeting, including 6 new vendors).  1 membership entitles you to 1 booth space at our market (held in the parking lot of The Medical Center).  You can purchase a maximum of 2 memberships (or 2 spaces).

Attendance at our Tuesday’s market in the months of April, September and October is low, so vendors can attend those market days for free.  There is a daily stall fee of $5.00 per stall on the other Tuesdays.  Vendors pay $10.00 per stall on Saturdays, unless they have 2 memberships, and then they pay $25.00 (for 2 stall spaces).

You can look at our member applications, market guidelines, by-laws and market manager job description on our market website at www.skyfarmersmarket.com
