Dave,

I typically use ¾” soil blocks set on 1 s/ft ($1) ceramic floor tiles over a 5’x9’ plastic sheet over a 4’x8’ sheet of plywood on saw horses. At one end of the table I have two 11”x44” heat mats under the plastic sheet. This allows me to have 8 tiles at 220 starts each for a total of 1760 starts at a time. They are typically on the mats for a very short time before they are potted-on and removed from the mats. This is when you start really needing space off the mats. Equinox (brand) controller controls the temp (same temp) for all mats. I like to lay a piece of plastic wrap over the starts for moisture and heat purposes.

Hi Ya,

anybody have any advice on heat mats? I remember a discussion about them years ago, but my mind is slipping and now I want to get some.

How many do you use at once? do you lay the flats across the mat or along the length? any better/poor brands?

I'm a 60 member (I hope) CSA and don't know if I can start all I need using heat mats...

Oh yeah, How do you search the archives?

Thanks

Have Fun
