Greetings,
While this is true in some parts of the world, in Texas it is not. The
oats I buy for me look like the oats I bought in Canada, plump grains
very similar to wheat. The oats I buy for my animals are long slender
things, very little meat and they don't roll worth a darn. Depending on
how much seed you are looking for, why not just buy from a health food
store? If you need lots, it is a bit pricey, but if you keep part of
your harvest to grow next year, it is a one time expense so buying the
good stuff is worth it.
Bright Blessings,
Kim

Mark,
Same thing. Oats for horse feed and oats for humans. The oats for
humans are just cleaned of foreign matter better. Not that some seed
you may buy may be treated (but that could be in either case).

I'd like to plant a little patch of oats and another of wheat. I want
to sell it at the farmers' market as a natural unprocessed food. Not
sure anyone will buy it, but thought I'd try a little and see what
happens. Question is, what do I ask for when I want seeds for human
consumption instead of livestock? I plant wheat and oats all the
time, but I don't think they're meant for people food.
Thanks
