Cut a green sapling and trim the end where
there is a stub of a limb near the tip end. push this down the hole till you
encounter the ground hog and start twisting. the limb stub will twist into the
fur on the ground hog and you can pull him out of the hole and knock him in the
head with something . Skin it out and clean it and cut it up boil through
a couple of waters to get rid of the strong smelling grease then batter it and
bake it in the oven. Coat the flesh side of the hide with fairly wet hard wood
ashes and let it soak for 3 or 4 days this will loosen the hair folicles.
slip out the hair and nail the hide up on a board or the side of a shed and let
it dry for several days. a well tanned ground hog hide makes a good banjo head
or failng that cut it into strips for shoe strings. Its makes good tough shoe
strings
