Adding nitrogen (poultry litter, alfalfa, food wastes, fish
wastes) will bring C:N ratio into balance and thus kick
biological activity into gear resulting in thermophilic heatup
and sawdust breakdown.

Woody biomass that is composted slowly will naturally develop
fungal biomass.

But you can add fungi to speed up the fungal process by
mixing up a fungal-heavy compost tea and spraying down the
piles. You'll also be adding plenty of bacteria and other
microbes, but the point is that fungal hyphae is in there
and it will live and grow.

Pogo Organics is in Maryland so you can buy compost substrate
and related items from a supplier in the region to make
fungal compost tea.

Getting moisture of the woody biomass up to the proper
level can make a difference, too.
