Apply the compost to soil and incorporate before you plant
cover crops. Suggest you amend soil with rock minerals or
rock dust, as well. It is the minerals and biology working
together that drive soil functions and crop growth.
When planning how much volume of compost to purchase
and apply, the rule of thumb is that 2 cubic yards of compost
is roughly equal to one ton.
Low rate is 2-3 tons per acre. Medium rate is 5-10
tons per acre. High rate is 15-20 tons per acre.
I would usually think that steam sterilization of feedstock
for mushroom compost happens "before" it goes into the
mushoom beds, in which case the spent mushroom compost
will be loaded with biology when it comes out and made
available for sale to farmers and gardeners. Spent mushroom
compost is very popular with gardeners around here, the
city parks department buys it buy the dump truck load.
