I received some edamame seed from the USDA last year and saved half. The researcher sent fresh seed for this year bercause I did not freeze the previous year's seed. He said because of the high oil content that the old seed had probably gone rancid and would not germinate.

Subject: [Market-farming] Saving Edamame Seed Questions

I grew some edamame soy beans last year and saved some seed. I planted
about a week ago. It has been warm here, two days about 90 this week. I
probably should have checked the soil temperature.

1. Can I expect the same quality of beans this year as last, or should
I have bought new seed?

2. Some seeds had a purple color. Is this okay?

Thanks

Marty Kraft
