All squash are cucurbitas but not all squash can cross with each other. FEDCO says this:
The genus cucurbita has 6 different species of which 3 are in the FEDCO catalog. Different varieties withing the same species will cross readily but crossing does not occur between the different species.<snip> You need to isolate crops of the same species by at least 1500' or protect it from insects who can bring unwelcome pollen and hand pollinate yourself.
Be aware that all summer squash, zukes, pattypans, most pumpkins, acorn, delicata, spaghetti are pepos
buttercup, kuri, hubbard, turks turban, candy roaster are all maximas (as are any grey "pumpkins" like Jarrahdale and giant pumpkins)
Butternut is a moschata as are most cheese squashes
