We put a strand of electric wire around the outside, just off the ground (4 to 6 inches, the lower the better without shorting out) and about 6 inches out from the side. Seemed to do the trick. You can get the 6" insulators for T-posts and cut the back off, then screw the insulator to the wood frame. Has seemed to work for three years.

Then hubby made a "bridge" over the wire at the chicken door cause the chickens don't like tripping over the wire. We put the bridge on when we open the door, take it off at night. Can leave hooked up all the time this way if you want, but the chickens favorite place is often right up against the tractor so they don't like the wire on.

Hi,

We built a 4X10' chicken tractor out of 2X2's and chicken wire. On the second night a fox got in-we have sandy soil and he dug right under it. How do you all keep digging predators out of a chicken tractor? I put a lead from my deer fence energizer on the chicken wire so when it comes back tonight for round 2 it should get a surprise. I'd like to avoid electric poultry netting as we have less than 10 layers and the eggs are for farm crew consumption only, I liked the idea of just moving the tractor over the lawn every few days to keep things simple.

Any help would be appreciated.
