For us in the South, seed orders go in the first week of the year.  A couple of happenings to pass along.
As many of you probably already know, Cooks Garden has been bought by Burpee.  Although I have not purchased from Burpee in many years, I got a catalog this year.  So, I emailed and asked them for a Safe Seed Pledge.  They did reply that they don't have one.  Trash that catalog!

I placed my order with Johnny's seeds a couple of days ago.  They had a crop failure with the Maxibel bean.  I substituted Tavera, but then found the Maxibel at Willhite.  I'll grow them side by side and compare, but for those who want the Maxibel, go to www.willhiteseed.com.  Willhite is in Texas, west of Ft Worth, and specializes in cantaloupe and watermelon for commercial growers.  They do have packets  for smaller growers and experiments.

I bought Sweet Riser corn from Harris last year and, although we were dismayed by the pink stuff on it, it was the best corn I have ever eaten.  Now, they've discontinued it!  I found it at Park, page 68D, on clearance!   Bummer, I am now going to have to save corn seed.  However, it is only $7.50 a pound.

Happy catalog cruising to all
