We still use pickups - and always will. Only a pickup can pick up 100 pound
bags of feed from the mill, haul 25-30 bales of hay from the field, haul a
load of wet manure to the composting area (ditto spent plants from the high
tunnels) and haul a trailer full of beeves, or a bed full of crates of
chickens to the processor - all in the same day. We use a topper on our
small (GMC Sonoma) pickup that we put on the night before and take off after
market - to transport the delicate stuff - cut flowers, potted herbs,
perennials etc., and a full size Chevy to haul all the set-up stuff, tables
and boxes. Pickups are sooo.... versatile - I drive mine to work every day
too! Both have a 4.3 v-6 mine with 245,000, Paul's with 242,000 - all
original. Can't beat the cost of driving them. We would definitely be
interested in a cooled box that would slide in and out - it would be great
for cooling in the field as well - since we use the trucks to transport our
harvest from field to house for packing. Really looking forward to those
plans!!!
