Just a reminder to others out there do not put in your rules
any price structure requirements. For example that prices for produce have to be
within 25% of each other. A couple of years ago the NC State Attorney Office did
a little survey of area farmers markets. The market in Hillsborough, NC and
another were charged with unfair pricing. They had to revise their rules
and stop forcing vendors to maintain a certain price
guideline.
We at the Carrboro Farmers Market do not have any kind of
pricing rules. I will walk around the market to survey the price on items I have
to sell as well as to what is available. By checking what is available
I can direct customers to a location for an item I do not have. They may not buy
from me then but will likely return at a future date to purchase something
else.
