Liz,
Here's what Lynn yczynski has to say about Poppies in The Flower Farmer:
"They are not a commercial cut flower because the vase life is so short,
usually three days at most. However, home gardeners can rush poppies right
from the garden into the house, seat the cut stems with a flame or by
plunging into boiling water, and enjoy their luminous colors for a few
days."
> I've experimented been experimenting with what few poppies have made it
through all the

> Are there other methods to lengthen vase time?? Or do they just not make
> good cut flowers??
Lynn recommends the variety Hens and Chicks as the most popular cultivar for
dried use, but warns that it is technically illegal to grow P. aomniferum
and the DEA has started enforcing this against growers and the seed may not
be available because of this. A legal alternative which makes less
attractive dried flowers is the Oriental Poppy.
