I need some brilliant ideas to keep CSA members happy till the sun comes out
here in cloudy wet Massachusetts, even lettuce in growing in microscopic
increments.
My CSA here in southeast New Hampshire just had their first pickup of the season. It wasn't pretty but it's a start. They each got some rhubarb, a head of lettuce, one baby pac choi (mei qing choi) and a bunch of garlic greens. Remember, you do the best you can but they agreed to SHARE the risk with you, the farmer. That's what CSA is all about. For those who don't understand that, I'm sure there will be 20 people knocking down your door to replace them if they drop out due to disappointment. I explain it to my shareholders in a language they can understand "CSA is like the stock market" ;-) In the meantime, we've found that wild crafted nettle can fill in a void early in the season! Good luck & let's hope for sun!
