Tanglefoot is a sticky substance that you can buy in cans at most garden centers and apply with a brush. When an object (such as a white piece of plastic for flea beetles or a red ball in the case of apple orchard pests) is coated with Tanglefoot, it becomes a trap for insects that land on it.
