Hello everyone,
I just wanted to post to the list a couple brief things... first of all this is my first post to you so I should tell a bit about myself.. I am a small time backyard gardner, grew up spending a lot of time on my grandmothers farm... after some time in the Marines and some time at a big computer company I decided this isn't for me and heading back to farming... starting small with market farming (brand new to that so ANY help is appreciated). Staying with the computer company for now since I cant afford to leave.  (yet)  that being said I would like to offer back to you all something... I lurk on this list to learn things.. and have learned so much already especially about market gardening, I do coding for a job.. and websites on the side for fun/sometimes profit.  I program in Cold Fusion... I would like to offer myself to you all in case you have website advice.. so far it seems we have a lot of really good comments posted about websites, I support all that has been said.. however I can also offer that technical advise that although isn't exciting... is needed to make a beautiful website that is not flashy, not popping up ads about cameras when your site is about tomato's ;o) and still has a very down to earth feel... I think that is important.  I will be building my site soon... probably titled "A beginners journey and stumbles, and grumbles into market gardening... " or something equally as entertaining.  When I do I will post it here for you all to critique... to get me back for me critiquing others sites ;o)

I guess on the last note I will say.. coming from the outside living in a city... and trying to move back into the ways I miss.. farming, is hard.  I am an outsider trying to find nice land... start up farming, etc... and unless you have $$$ up front it is such a daunting task... I have learned from all of your comments important things though... and starting small with this market farming may put a bit aside for me to finally afford a little farm somewhere.  Thank you all...

   Judy Lynn

Here in Texas you have to be between 19 & 39 to qualify as a young farmer loan and say farming will be your primary profession. On a similar note, if you get ready to purchase some farm land, make sure that no part of it might be considered a wetland as you'll never be able to qualify for any USDA loans. FYI, wetlands comprise more than just marsh, ponds etc, so you might check with a local USDA farm service conservation agent to confirm that your desired property does not have "wetland like vegetation" which is how they, the providers of the wetlands act, designate wetland property. Good luck, Van Wood Duck Farm ------=_NextPart_000_0017_01C2E998.D28CD160 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
