It may not be relevant to plants, but researchers just reported that soy in
beef feed lowers the viable sperm in bulls.

Melissa: I used soybean meal on my organic market garden last season. I
put about 2 pounds on each of my 3 x 50 foot beds. The only thing that
didn't germinate at all were golden beets, but I didn't attribute that to
the soybean. Carrots didn't germinate very well, but well enough, compared
ot the golden beets where I got 4 beets! out of 3 seedings in 2 different 50
foot beds. I attributed the low germination on my inability to keep the
beds wet enough, what with the drought, winds and heat.

I applied it along with 12 wheelbarrows of compost per bed just before
planting. I worked it in the top 4-6 inches of soil. This was my first
year, so have no comparisons. The land had been a field of grasses and
weeds before I had it plowed for cultivation.

I used it on all crops -- carrots, peas, beans, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers,
cucumbers, kale, chard, squash (summer and winter), spinach, lettuce, corn,
potaotes, onions, cilantro, radishes, beets, dill, salad mix/arugula,
watermelon, pak choi, broccoli raab.

I plan to get another soil test and if it's low again in nitrogen, I plan to
use it again.

Do you have any firm evidence that it supresses germination? I'd sure love
to hear what data you have.

Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck.
