I agree with Bob on this. While there is a practice of suckering peppers in
greenhouse production sometimes, I wouldn't do it in the field, even if you
stake them, for the same resons Bob mentions. When staking peppers, it isn't
quite the same as staking tomatoes because the plant grows differently.
Generally the staking system creates a fence around the outside of the
peppers using stakes and twine, which the plants then grow into. The staking
system then holds the plants up as they grow taller. The plants are not
individually tied up like tomatoes sometimes are.

fruit without suckering if you choose the right variety and space them at
two feet appart in the row, pepper plants need all the leaf cover they can
get to prevent sunscald which does more damage to peppers than insects and
disease combined... Bob.
