Hello All-

I sent an article from the Joplin (MO) Globe a week or so ago on School
Lunch Programs buying fresh from the farm produce from Family Farms. Today
this little "blurb" was in the Santa Fe New Mexican ! This must be a coming
trend.

Senator Tom Udall was at Alvord on Monday sampling the Farms to School
luncheon. The Farms to School program is getting a test run at three Santa
Fe schools this year - Alvord, César Chávez Elementary and Capital High. The
goal is to encourage students to increase their fruit and vegetable intake.
In addition to a hot lunch, students can choose from fresh fruits,
vegetables and a salad mix - from the Santa Fe Area Farmers' Market and a
California company. The Farms to Schools program is funded by the U.S. and
New Mexico departments of agriculture and the Friends of the Farmers Market.
The district hopes to expand the program to five additional schools in the
fall.
