Hi Ron,
A couple of alternatives to a herbicide. Flames, burn them out. I have not tried the torch method of eradicating weeds but have been told it works. Another is boiling water. I have seen the machine that does this it appeared to be fairly simple and quite successful. A bit costly though. I believe it depends on your usage and acreage.
A third is turning your dock into a crop. Burdock root is in demand both medicinal and culinary.
