Hello Listers.....
I'm a newbie to farming, we've just got our land and gotten
the house settled. Now it's time to start workin the land. We just took
our soil samples and are drying them out now. Our plan is take this year
and build our soil with cover crops. The question is what cover crops to
use. Harry vetch seems to be the best nitrogen fixing, and would provide
lots organic matter. We also looked at red clover, which would provide the
nitrogen but not as much og matter. The land hasn't been used for farming
for at least 5 years and the soil seems to be on the clay side. So I guess
we would like to know what would be the best route for soil improvement.
Any tips you can give will help....Thanks.
Dave/Julie.
P.s. We live in zone 6, just outside Louisville Ky.
