Thank you for this post. It is timely for us. We are trying to set up 2 Green
Markets for Central Florida right now and want to exculde any non farmers
from vending at all. We are relying on local growers to supply the produce
needed but here is the problem, we have had a very very harsh winter for
Florida. We had 30 days in the 30's and lower since the holidays and most of
the local growers are hurting right now. Our market is scheduled to open in 2
weeks. We have decided to allow vended produce but ONLY from Florida Organic
Growers certifed farms to keep the quality high and to keep the ethic of
supporting local agriculture. There are several FOG farms in the southern
part of the state whom have fared better this winter. We are hoping to use
their produce to start the market and suppliment where the local growers need
some time for their crops to catch up. I hope this isn't a mistake. We
certainly will not allow any vendors of conventional produce to set up. We
have seen first hand how this has ruined the other local farmers markets.
