It's official -- I'm going to be a presenter at the NOFA conference in August at Hampshire College (Amherst, MA). I'll be talking about my agroforestry permanent raised beds project funded by an $8,000 SARE grant. I was one of six farms in New York to receive one of these grants last year.

I did it, survived it, and you can too.

And after five years of searching without success for housemates/partners here, four people are supposed to move in by the end of this month! I'm not counting them until they get here, of course, but it's exciting!

I gave notice today at the school where I've been mistreated for seven months for much too little money. Next week will be my last actual week of work there. Converting to 40 hours per week at the part-time job that pays three times as much (and treats me well and makes reasonable accommodation for my documented disabilities). Farming will be much easier when I'm back to just one off-farm job.

Lastly, a local person adopted two Great Pyrenees (mostly) dogs a year ago and they have not succeeded as town pets (duh). We're going to attempt rehabilitation of these dogs at the farm -- not an easy or simple task. But it'll be great to have Pyrs there again. Because I still think my previous Pyr was shot by a neighbor, they can come for visits but can't stay until we get the woven wire up around the whole two acres of pasture and I get help to walk them around the perimeters on leash twice a day so they can get an idea of where "their" territory begins and ends. I hope.

I'm also finding wonderful artisans doing beautiful and unusual work -- great stuff to add to the farm market stand.

Won't be overrun with ducks this year, found a Chinese family who happily takes all the duck and goose eggs I can supply to them. Now to market those beautiful differently-colored free range Aracauna and Barred Rock eggs.

Oy, oy, it grows! Now if the pond in the field subsides....not that I'm complaining, we've been in drought conditions for the past three years after our spring floods perk.
