Just wanted to add that striving towards self
sufficiency makes a lot of sense even economically. Feeding children and grand
children would be impossible if it were not for doing most things
ourselves.
When our three children were teenagers wife and
myself took one day off to visit friends in another county. We left a 9 kilo
cooked ham so the bairns would not starve. We found a clean bone when we came
back after 24 hours and by that time they were starving and frying steak. You
try to do that on a farmers income if you have to buy everything.
