In the end everything will be gone.  But, until then...

Not all locations, cities etc, can be painted with the same brush.  I'm in an area with abundant rain, and it's that same rain that allows for the generation of electricity (bad for the salmon here, but for the foreseeable future [until total collapse, or the dams fully silt up] that's the way it's going to be).

All of us have dependencies on things that are not sustainable.  Even something such as rainwater collection relies on many things that people aren't aware of and would have to make allowances for (continued reliance on non-sustainable practices), I won't go into them here, but know that they do exist.

What we can do now is to slowly wind down our dependencies.  And, unlike the survivalists' mentality, it'll take co-operation within the local community to achieve this.  Building knowledge, as Paul continues to point out, is the minimum that we should do.
