Hello,
Traditions have changed a bit much for some in Southeast Asia, where Bird Flu
first started and apparently is alive and well.
We attended an NZ Science Society lecture about Bird Flu, remember that one?
It has not attracted press attention because it is only killing people in
Asia and Africa now, primarily Indonesia and Egypt.
The frightening issue is the high proportion of human fatalities among the
infected: 65% as compared to only 3% for the Swine Flu. A major difference
is that Swine Flu transmits easily among people, but Bird Flu is usually from
direct contact with birds.
Asian "traditional" farming with intensive poultry might be a danger in
continuing development of flu strains. Or maybe on your local land?
The second important message is that while wild birds do occasionally spread
Bird Flu, primary vectors are the large numbers and concentrations of
domesticated birds, in CAFO's and intensive farms.
The best solution is a the "veggie" option, still.

PENANG, Malaysia, Oct 9 (IPS/IFEJ) - When organisers of an international
conference on climate change and the food crisis first scheduled the event
here for late September, little did they realise the event would be
sandwiched by two typhoons buffeting the region.
