Uriel,

these squash were planted out in organic-matter rich clay soil, heavily
manured over many years. hard to see why they'd be weak.

we've about 8 or 10 guinea hens running around, but so far they haven't
discovered the infestation, and my attempts to grab them, walk them over and
show them the little beetles, have been, well, use your imagination...

luckily, i've got an order in for floating row covers, we'll see how they
help or not.
