The sad part is that many such folks are working multiple jobs and end up
with very little time to prepare food from scratch :-( The system likes it
this way, as it needs lots of slaves...

The other sad part is, is that people don't get the difference between value
and price. I was involved in a "conversation circle" in which I was
chastised for repeating that one eats in order to acquire nutrients, and that
paying more for more/better nutrients was of more value than paying less for
more bulk; the person complained that they had to feed their kid; it was
obvious that the entire family had been practicing "bulk consumption" for way
too long. And this was from someone who was supposed to be more informed
about things! At this point it became clear that it's a waste of time trying
to change people; people have to change for themselves!

This woman is obviously trying to do what she can with her disability, but
it's not enough. Maybe more cash-strapped people would be hitting the farmers
market if they knew how to cook from scratch and bake - and realized how much
cheaper they could feed the family. Shredded cheese? Bagels? Yogurt?
Crackers? Salad dressing? Potato chips? People think these things are cheap
but they're all processed and packaged, and they pay for the processing and
packaging. And get plenty of empty calories and little nutrition.
