OSU has been doing a study on the spread of infectious e-coli via European starlings. They show up during feeding time for cows, and also eat the undigested feed from cow manure. The same strains of e-coli have been found in their digestive tracts. I would be interested to know if starlings are present out west, and if they are studied as possible vectors there. It would make a whole lot more sense than feral hogs.
