What about beekeeping equipment? It seems a good investment to get started…sorry, really I agree with you. It takes real creative thinking to become more self-supporting, but for our small homestead, that’s the goal. One of the things we are working on is an ingenious silage made from lawn clippings that we read about in Gene Logsdon’s “All Flesh is Grass” (a great book, by the way) for a small chicken flock’s winter feeding. Other things are water collection, root cellaring, etc. We learn as we go, as I’m sure everyone on this list is, especially with the help of Paul and Barb. Great moderators! Good luck everybody!

When I teach a workshop, the first thing I do is hang this paper on the wall.  Not one gardening center has sponsored a workshop.
