Unfortunately, there's a wide gulf between sentimental daydreaming and hard
headed respect for the land and the web of life. Most farmers only
connection to the land has been to see how much they can get out of it -
and ending up getting nothing out of it. Growing for now and for the future
depends on knowledge of how it's been done for millennia and hard work to
improve in the here and now.

To live on the land we have to give life back to the land. You can't get
more out of it than you put into it.
