I applaud anyone's family for sustaining the
responsibility that comes with owning land for 150 years. The
connection with land is a bond that has as much nurturing love to it as a bond
with any family member. To have the land sustains one is in many ways
difficult to understand unless the experience has been your own. To become a
true steward to the land, the care taker or the husband of the land and to
receive what the land gives will quite naturally make one want to take care of,
and to do what they feel is best for the land. Granted sometimes what is done to
land turns out not to be the best thing. However, one's heart can and naturally
wishes to do the best for the land and to sustain it. Land connects with the
soul in you and begins a silent conversation like marriage or a
relationship. It opens a whole new world to you. What defines the
meaning of life becomes expanded, richer and grounded to the
roots of humanity on and with earth. It is not one way, you must
listen and be more than a bit humble. Nature will then reveal herself and you
will be in awe, astounded even. If earth chooses you to be a steward of her
treasures you are the receiver of a great richness of the fabric of life. Bob
