Charred wood does indeed hold up well. We've 'mined' the piles of burnt
stumps and such for the good dirt that has fallen off them. The charred
wood is still intact 10 years later. Old time charred fence post with a
small bed of gravel under them hold up 10 - 20 year depending on the size
and dampness of the soil.
Charred wood is also harder. Charring a spear tip for spearing fish or
rabbits -etc - in a 'hunting' situation is well known.
