Hi Joanna,
It does linger in the soil,  I can't tell you how long though.  We use to raise earthworms back in the late 70's, early 80's.  Dad had to be really careful when he was getting manure to bed them in or add as food, not to get manure that had wormer in it as it would kill the earthworms just like it kills parasitic ones.
