Gardener Policies (please read and initial)

Bernalillo County Extension Service Policies

* New Mexico Extension Master Gardeners will not use their name and
position for commercial publicity or private business. Participation in a
commercial activity, having association with commercial products or giving
implied University endorsement to any product or place of business is in
violation of New Mexico State University policies. Trained individuals may
identify themselves as an Extension Master Gardener only when doing unpaid
public service work in a New Mexico State University approved program.
Persons taking the classes for credit only may state they have done so, but
may not use for themselves the title of Extension Master Gardener.
* Questions concerning commercial production of crops or pest control
for commercial producers are to be referred to the local County Extension
Agents. Non-commercial cultural and pesticide recommendations may be made
by active Master Gardeners provided they are consistent with published New
Mexico State University recommendations. Written materials (new releases,
newsletters, etc.) prepared by Master Gardeners, who indicate themselves as
such in the article, must be approved by the local Extension Agent before
release.
* Cultural problems not specifically covered by NMSU or USDA
recommendations may be handled by suggesting treatments an experienced
Extension Master Gardener considers appropriate. Master Gardeners should
provide information based on empirical research, when possible. Callers
requesting alternative information (i.e. organic methods) should be given
the type of information requested, with any appropriate caveats if this
information is not research based. Callers should be guided toward
understanding preventative measures, as well as treatment options.
* Gratuitous payments for speaking or other activities on behalf of the
NMSU Cooperative Extension Service are strictly prohibited.
* The Federal Privacy Act prohibits the use of the Master Gardener
mailing list for personal, political or commercial use.
* As an Extension Master Gardener working with the general public, no
discrimination shall be shown on the basis of age, color, disability, sex,
national origin, race, religion, or veteran status.

Albuquerque Area Extension Master Gardener Policies

* To be certified as an Albuquerque Area Extension Master Gardener,
course participants must attend the prescribed hours of training and pass
all examinations. A score of 70% will be considered passing on
examinations. Re-testing is allowed if lower scores are received, but
tests must be completed by June 1. Certification will be for a period of
one year beginning at graduation. At the end of the year a new certificate
or shingle will be issued to the Master Gardeners who wish to volunteer for
another year. Returning Extension Master Gardeners must attend the
equivalent of 6 approved educational classes each year and pay a minimal
sustaining fee in return for the training and certification provided by the
program. A minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service is required of first
year and Veteran Master Gardeners, 20 of which shall be on the hotline.
* Extension Master Gardeners are required to maintain a written record
of volunteer activities. This record is maintained at the Garden Center
Hotline location.
* Snow Days Policy—We will follow Albuquerque Public Schools
announcements regarding 2-hour delay or cancellation. Listen to radio or
TV news for APS announcements.
* Sign-In—All who attend the Master Gardener classes are required to
sign-in at each class they attend (8:30, 10:30 and 1:00). If you are late,
contact the registrar as soon as you arrive. First year participants must
attend all morning classes. Afternoon classes are optional.
* Hotline Hours—All Master Gardeners with less than 6 years of
service are required to serve 20 hours on the Master Gardener Hotline.

If selected to participate in the Albuquerque Area Extension Master
Gardener Program, I agree to abide by these policies. ________
