The "mandala" construction is from one of Bill Mollison's permaculture
books. It makes use of keyhole beds within a larger keyhole bed, with a
banana pit or something similar at the center. If you use the corners of
the area as compost areas or for small fruit trees, berries or other
permanent crops then it is very efficient.
