Not to rain on your parade but my friend Christina just ditched DSL for Uverse and is VERY displeased. Here's her note.

If you'd like to talk with her, send me a request as I don't want to post her email address without her consent.

Hi,

I'm on the phone (AGAIN -- FOREVER on HOLD) with AT&T.  The UVerse Internet service sucks: frequent service logjams - even lost voice for about 4 minutes yesterday.  The monthly bill is higher than promised because the rep never mentioned the "taxes and surcharges" AND the rep never mentioned the small matter of $175 for installation charge and equipment!  Almost passed out when I saw my bill.  I've told them I'm going to open a deceptive trade practices case with the Public Utilities Commission if we can't resolve this.  I think they're going to waive the $175 charge, but the service still sucks and the cost is still higher than promised.  It will end up costing me a little more than the DSL service monthly.

It's clear to me that they DO want people to migrate to this service.  Tell people not to buy their predatory corporate story.  This is the whole problem with our economy in a nutshell: big companies take advantage of people's trust and then stick them with the consequences of ill-informed decisions.  This is exactly how unsuspecting customers got into unmanageable credit card interest debt.

Am I pissed????  YOU BETCHA!

I've had U-verse for about a month now. No complaints so far, other than
minor interface quibbles. What clinched it for me is that we pay a flat rate
for telephone, so we don't get charged for individual long-distance calls.
So in the end it costs less than AT&T local, Dish Network, and AT&T DSL
Lite.
