I'm weighing in as a pro-Dell user. I've owned 3 Dell laptops already with virtually no problems and have a Latitude on order.

Support has always been US based.  Next day repairs have been easy.  I haven't had problems with the Dell laptops.  I buy the warranty so I have the support in case I need it as I use the laptop as my primary business machine.

Lenovo's are great machines from what I understand.

I got a great deal on the Latitude plus the NAR discount. It was cheaper than the IBM discount.

Colleen, I've had two Dells -- and problems with each. For a Windows
laptop, I'd really suggest that you go with a ThinkPad. Of all the
laptops I've ever had, (WinBook, Dell, HP, ThinkPad) I've had the best
luck in ThinkPads, especially those that I grabbed on the cheap from eBay.
