- Subject: [internetworkers] Large screen wall mounting
- Date: Thu, 07 Feb 2008 21:34:11 -0500
I recently purchased a 52" flat-panel TV that I want to wall mount. I figure it goes something like: attach part of the mount to the TV, attach the other piece to studs in the wall (using a stud finder that I have), hang TV. Voila, right? Then I read in the Sony TV manual, in three places, that they strongly recommend that the wall mounting "be performed by Sony dealers or licensed contractors". I don't know if this is cross-selling BS, overly protective product liability BS, or actually good advice.
So has anyone mounted a TV on their wall or had a service do it for them? I think I can handle what seems like a fairly simple task but I'm concerned about ignorance on some important issue that could cause my new TV to be damaged. But I'm also not looking forward to paying $300-$400 to a service like Geek Squad if I can wisely avoid it.
Thank you in advance for any info you have on this subject.
