I don't stop for alarms or mechanical voices. If the cashier put it all
in a bag, took my cash, and gave me a receipt my requirement to interact
with them any further is complete and I am going on my merry way.
Once your receipt is in hand, you're free to go. No need to stop for
inspections or "papers, please".
My one exception to this is private shopping clubs like BJ's or Costco's
where you have entered into an agreement that requires these receipt
checks as a condition of continued membership in the club. I do think
it is obnoxious but I comply with the receipt checks in those stores.
