Kurt, you can get external IDE drive enclosures for standard IDE drives
(3.5" or larger) for around $20-40. These provide a USB(2) interface;
slightly more expensive models add ieee1394 (Firewire). Intrex typically
stocks them, or you should be able to find them at your favorite online
parts supplier (newegg et al).

Basically these devices supply a case and the circuitry to convert from
the drive's IDE to (USB|Firewire). You're mainly interested in the
circuitry here, but you can probably just leave the case open during
operation for ease of swapping in a new drive. Just be sure to unplug and
power-down the device before disconnecting the connected drive.

.:Anyone know of a device that you can use on a PC externally and plug in old
.:IDE drives to harvest the data off them? Some kind of docking station for
.:internal drives? I've got about 10 that I need to do this with and I'm in no
.:mood to open up my box that I just built each time I need to do this. I
.:can't seem to find anything like this on the Web. It seems like something
.:that useful would exist somewhere. Eventually I'm going move all the old
