There's a good article this week in the New Republic detailing many
of the arguments made by the author of "High and Mighty", a book about
the entangled set of perhaps well-intentioned environmental regs that
led, inexorably, to the creation of the SUV as a public menace. Worth
a read.

As far as the tax credits go, I don't know for sure what you're
referring to, but all I heard was that the credit applied to SMBs being
able to spend more on "equipment". Whether that would be used to buy
SUVs or not, I dunno. It never crossed my mind, frankly, but I suppose
if you're a smal business owner who has a fleet of vehicles, you might
want to spend some money on a big truck. <shrug>
