Driving places:

Chapel Hill/Carrboro has a rural buffer zone around it which makes just
about
any drive out of C.H. towards either Pittsboro or Hillsborough fun.
Taking North Greensboro St. towards Hillsborough is great, along with
Jones Ferry towards Pittsboro.

Good exploring, too: You can drive quite randomly without a map for
a good while, and even with the mildest attention to direction you
end up back on either I-40, I-85, 15-501, 54 or 64. Then you just go
home. Can make a fun game. Jordan Lake is available for
geographic centering purposes, and you can also stumble across some
unexpected delights such as Allen & Son's Barbeque in this area.

....I'll save my Unified Theory of Linear Landmarks for a later time.
