I thought the "chick" was a made up character, not a real person:

"Coleman explains that staff and freelance writers under the direction of an
executive producer will create a unique, witty, fussy personality for the she
she character. "

I agree with you about freedom of expression to a point, but the posters were
talking about their reactions to a made up character, not a real person, and
respect is for people, not characters.
