A BBQ war?

What ever do you mean?

Perchance that in the South,
the noun is properly applied
to a vinegar-based pork product,
and in other locales,
it is applied to the grilling device itself?

Whereas, the *verb* BBQ,
is unknown hereabouts,
and in all other locales,
means application of any food
in tomato-based sauce
to a grill?

What could be clearer? Except,
that those who *prefer*
the tomato-based sauce,
and use the term as a verb
are egg-suckin' heathen...
