On the whole "recruiting minorities" theme:
Maybe I'm the only one, but if I were a "recruited minority" I would be
sorta "ooked-out" (that is the technical term, BTW). For example, if
Internetworkers had been primarily blondes, and someone had asked me about
joining the group 'cause they needed more redheads, I would've been
slightly offended.
Don't you want me for me? The idea that I was invited (and in a sense,
used) to fufill some strange haircolor quota (or assuage some blonde's
historical haircolor guilt... the prosecution of redheads throughout the
ages is a true, though little-known, fact) would be distressing to me.
I don't even like the idea that some blonde individual (in a perhaps
well-motivated attempt to increase their personal diversity quotient)
would want to meet me *because* I'm a redhead. Because I'm funny, sure.
Smart, great. 'Cause I can make a killer pound cake or know how to tango,
super.
But just because of the color of my hair. ew.
THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!!! YMMV!!!
: )

My brain seems to have a circuit-breaker-like mechanism that, when I get
confused and befuddled by the overwheming monstrosities of my life, causes
a default to the simplest and most pleasant of thoughts. Like Marshmallow
Peeps. I *like* Marshmallow Peeps.
