It is a bit less than 32 feet, there are charts that give the distance as a
function of altitude. Air pressure at sea level is 10.3 m (34') of water or
760 mm (~30") of Mercury. The difference in air pressure given in feet of
water and the distance a piston pump can lift is the real world problems of
seals, pipe friction, aging, and the length of the pump itself.

The pump is just the section that sits within the distance from the water
given by the tables. The part you see at the top in the lift jack or pump
jack. The picture pump that was in many kitchens had pump in the body but
they only lifted from a shallow cistern.

I have the charts in a small booklet but like my entire life, it is in
storage.
